Do you know how ichthyosis affects skin glands?

Our skin has three major glands, sebaceous glands, sweat glands and hair follicle glands.

1. The sebaceous glands are one of the channels for the body to metabolize oil, and the oil secreted has the effect of moisturizing and preventing dry skin. Because the skin of ichthyosis patients is covered with scales, which block the sebaceous glands, they cannot secrete oil normally, resulting in increasingly dry and itchy skin.

2. Sweat glands are an important organ for the body to metabolize water. If people cannot sweat normally, it will not only increase the burden on the kidneys, causing high uric acid, but also affect the blood circulation of the entire body, causing damage to important organs such as the liver, kidneys, and heart.

3. The hair follicle glands are responsible for the growth of hair. Due to the accumulation of epidermal scales in ichthyosis patients, the hair cannot grow normally when curled up in the hair follicle, resulting in blockage of the hair follicle opening, mild cases of red or black spots on the skin, severe hair folliculitis.

The skin is the body's largest organ, and when the gland becomes blocked, its "breathing" is blocked, so ichthyosis must be treated promptly to keep the skin gland normal!
