BSPF and BSPM

British Standard Pipe (BSP) is a series of standard thread types used internationally to interconnect and seal pipe ends by connecting male and female threads. The thread size is measured from the inside of the hose coupling.

What is a quick release coupling?

Quick release couplings allow you to easily connect and disconnect an air compressor or pneumatic tool. Quick release couplings are designed to seal when the connection is disconnected through the internal o-ring, eliminating the need for a shut-off valve. These connections consist of a male part and a female part, which contain internal pressure when properly connected.

The connection also allows the coupling to move, which means less kinking and twisting of the hose, making it more suitable for busy workplaces to keep the area safe.

Two Air Hose Connections

Most hoses are supplied with either a threaded retaining or quick release coupling. The male thread will screw into the female thread, and the male quick release will plug into the female quick release, so you may need a coupling to connect the lines together. Fortunately, we offer a wide range of couplings and any SGS air compressor or hose will be kept simple with a ¼" BSP thread or quick release coupling.

By using couplings, there is technically no limit to the amount of time you can make a hose. The more connections that exist, the more likely you are to experience pressure drops.

What is a PCL coupling?

The PCL coupling simply disconnects by pulling back on the ring while holding the air hose or connecting tool. This can cause the air hose to whip when compressed air escapes, so it is best not to do this in a busy environment. However, it is best to use this design as a single acting coupling, ideal for stationary applications, such as directly on a compressor. Although they may look similar, the PCL fitting will not connect properly to the BSP fitting.
