The open-loop system used for cannabis ethanol extraction is the most straightforward way to obtain an extract. The plant material to be used is placed in a tube with an open end, butane is poured over your material, and it is then steeped for extraction.

 

This process will take a few days and will not yield the best results because you need to allow the ethanol to evaporate naturally. It is possible to speed things up by heating the steeped cannabis, but this poses the risk of a possible explosion due to the ethanol and open flame. Likewise, heat will burn any flavor or aromatics.

 

Most importantly, it doesn't help when the solvent evaporates, but there will still be traces of ethanol or other solvents in the final product. It is a method where the extraction system is completely sealed and no gas is allowed to escape.CLE is also a more efficient extraction method.CLE systems are typically subjected to higher pressures than open-loop systems, which increases the time at the interface between butane and raw cannabis, resulting in a more complete extraction process. Part of the reason for this efficiency is that CLE systems allow the extractor to better control the temperature, which directly affects the solubility of THC in butane.
