Hachiko(Japan Hachiko Dog Statue)(Hachiko, November 10, 1923 – March 8, 1935) was a legendary loyal dog in Japanese history. Its breed is the Akita dog of Odate City, Akita Prefecture. Born in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, Japan in 1923, he was brought to Tokyo in 1924 by his owner, Eisaburo Ueno. Every morning, Hachiko watched his master go to work in front of his house, and in the evening he would pick him up at the nearby Shibuya Station. One night, Ueno Eizaburo did not return to Shibuya Station as usual, and he died suddenly of a heart attack at work. However, Hachiko remained faithfully waiting in front of Shibuya Station for 9 years until his death on March 8, 1935.

Hachiko was born in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, Japan in 1923. He is a purebred white Akita dog. Two months after it was born, it was brought home by Eizaburo Ueno, a professor of agriculture at the University of Tokyo, who was alone. The professor gets off work very late every day, and in the twilight, at the exit of Shibuya Station, he will inevitably see the figure of his pet dog, and “Hachiko” greets his master there every night.
On April 21, 1925, the professor died of a heart attack at the school. Eizaburo Ueno’s relatives and friends knew very well the touching relationship between the professor and Hachiko, and someone adopted the one-and-a-half-year-old Hachiko back home. But in “Hachiko”‘s mind, its owner is Ueno Eisaburo, so it still commutes to and from Shibuya Station, rain or shine, waiting for its owner to return.
Spring goes and spring comes again, flowers bloom and fall. For a full 9 years, the years have changed, and the cycle has been repeated, but what will not change is that a dog named “Hachiko” waits for its owner infatuatedly. Year after year, day after day, Hachiko waited on time at the exit of Shibuya Station every night, waiting patiently for its owner, who had been dead for 9 years.
In 1933, the Asahi Shimbun published the deeds of “Hachiko”. The story of “Hachiko”‘s loyalty and nostalgia for his master spread all over Japan, and “Hachiko” became a national symbol of loyalty.
The Japan Hachiko Dog Statue was erected in 1934, and “Hachiko” died the following year (1935).
