If you’re building or renovating and are trying to choose between sliding and stacker doors, here are a few pros and cons for each to help you decide which option you prefer.

SLIDING DOORS

Sliding doors can be used for a variety of purposes and come with a number of pros and cons that are important to consider.

PROS

Sliding doors are perfect for small spaces because you don't have to make additional space to open them outwards. Apart from being able utilise sliding security screen doors, they can also be used for other purposes.

Sliding doors increase the amount of airflow and natural light in your home. They can be pushed out of the way and tend to have thin frames, offering more unobstructed views.

CONS

The glass and tracks in sliding doors have to be regularly cleaned, making these doors higher maintenance than timber hinged doors.

Sliding doors, especially those with durable, high quality glass, can be more expensive than hinged doors.

STACKER DOORS

Stacker doors move along tracks, but are divided into narrower panels. They have a lot of benefits but have their fair share of disadvantages, too.

Stacker doors allow you to control the amount of air that comes into your home at any given time. Stacker doors also help to create a mostly unobstructed views and allow you to easily merge indoor and outdoor spaces.

Stacker doors take up very little space and are also relatively inexpensive to make and install.

CONS

Stacker doors are also quite high maintenance as the glass and tracks must be cleaned regularly..

If you don't pick high quality materials for your stacker doors, they can also be quite inefficient in insulating your home.
