Does the chain require maintenance? Why is it necessary?

The chain of a chain hoist is the primary load-bearing component during lifting operations. To extend its service life and prevent chain entanglement, regular maintenance is essential. Tests show that a well-maintained chain lasts 15–20 times longer than an unmaintained one.

How to identify when maintenance is needed?

For infrequent use: Maintain every 3 months.
For frequent use: Maintain monthly.
Alternatively, inspect the chain surface – if it appears dry or rough, apply chain lubricant immediately.
Proper maintenance procedure:
Ensure the hoist is unloaded.
Wipe clean all dust and debris from the chain surface.
Apply lubricant evenly across the chain, paying special attention to interlink connection points.
Keep the hoist unloaded and operate it through three full ascending/descending cycles after lubrication.

Potential hazards of inadequate maintenance:

A dry, unmaintained chain increases friction between links, accelerating wear and significantly shortening service life. This may lead to chain entanglement during operation, creating serious safety risks.
