What should be paid attention to when using steel wire rope slings?

First of all, before using the steel wire rope slings, a comprehensive inspection must be carried out to ensure that it has no cracks, wear or other damage. Pay special attention to the surface condition of the wire rope, and there must be no defects such as sharp twists, loops, wire skipping or flattening.

It is very important to correctly install and fix thesteel wire rope slings. Fix one end of the wire rope on the lifting equipment to ensure firmness. The other end is mounted on the hoisting object, and pay attention to the correct mounting position. When fixing, the end of the wire rope should be tied into a rope loop and fixed with at least three clips. The length of the braided part should not be less than 15 times the diameter of the wire rope, but the shortest should not be shorter than 300mm.

Before officially using the steel wire rope slings for lifting, a trial lift should be carried out, and the hoisting object should be gently lifted to check whether the wire rope and the lifting equipment are operating normally. During the operation, it must be carried out smoothly to avoid skew, smashing, bumping, and collision.

It is also necessary to note that it is strictly forbidden to overload the wire rope to ensure that it does not exceed its rated load. The number of broken wires in one pitch shall not exceed 10% of the total number of wires, the reduction in wire rope diameter shall not exceed 7%-10%, and when the wear or corrosion of the surface wire reaches more than 40% of the surface wire diameter, it should be replaced immediately.

It is also important to regularly check the status of the steel wire rope slings it in time if any problems are found. In particular, if there are rope strands that are sunken, partially reduced in diameter, extruded or twisted, partially flattened, or kinked, they should be scrapped immediately.
