How to Maintain an Automatic Osmometer

Proper maintenance ensures an automatic osmometer’s accuracy and longevity. Daily, wipe the sample chamber with a lint-free cloth after use to remove residue—avoid abrasive materials to prevent chamber damage. Check the solvent level (e.g., distilled water or calibration standards) and refill if low, as insufficient solvent disrupts measurements.

Weekly, calibrate the device with standard solutions (e.g., 100, 290, 850 mOsm/kg) to confirm accuracy; record calibration results for traceability. Inspect the inlet/outlet tubes for clogs or leaks—flush with solvent if blocked.

Monthly, clean the sensor with manufacturer-recommended cleaning fluid to remove protein or salt buildup. Check electrical connections for tightness and ensure the device is stored in a dry, dust-free environment at 15–30°C. Avoid extreme temperatures or humidity, which degrade components.

Promptly address issues like inconsistent readings by consulting the user manual or contacting technical support.
